Just a quick reminder that the June challenge starts soon.

Anyone got any plans firmed up yet? I’ve organised a date to do my regular bus challenge (i.e. I.c) with [personal profile] bob, and I'm planning to do the next stage in my bit-by-bit West Croydon to London Bridge walk (amended version of II.a) too.

I'm actually really excited since I now live in a city with an excellent bus system.

I'm seriously thinking about trying a walk from one station to another along one of the train lines, but haven't worked out where I should aim for. Some of the gaps are Quite Large (there appears to be one that is 30km, based on this page), and I'm not sure whether there are bike/pedestrian paths between all of them. Possibly will go for one of the older lines, where the stations are quite close together, and see what I can see in terms of pretty buildings.

*grin* technically, this is within the Greater Metropolitan Area, so within what the locals consider to be one city. :-}. These are commuter train lines, not the ones that are country trains.

(from here the land area of the Perth Metro area is 6,422 km^2)

I'm guessing (without having gone and looked at maps) that the London area is more densely populated? Here there are large areas within the metro area that are still bush, there are just trails of suburbs spreading out from a fairly concentrated centre.

Interesting. I wonder whether that Greater London aspect is why there is a 5 times the population density that we have (wikipedia tells me that the London Metropolitan Agglomeration has a population density of 1510 people per square kilometre and that Greater Perth has a mere 310).

..and my last assignment is due tomorrow night, so I'm starting to look at trying to do a proper walk. I did a surprise short walk in some of the Kings Park botanic gardens (wikipedia article here, didn't find a good map of it), but didn't think to take photos - may remember to write it up while I still remember where I went!

New plan is that I'm going to do a better/longer walk in Kings Park, because it occurred to me that there are large swaths I've never been in. Next Tuesday morning, with a plan for ~ 2 hours. And I will take a camera!

In the end, there wasn't a good day for it, where health and energy/motivation and timing and weather lined up. Maybe another time.

At one point in June I will be in Dublin. I shall attempt a beer glass walk there I think :D

I have three walks lined up, all in new-to-me territory, unless various variables alter and I also find myself in Bristol or Evesham:

town trail in Tewkesbury,
straight lines in Penzance,
and left/right in Torquay (altogether now, "... herds of wildebeest...").
