Film: Paterson, by director Jim Jarmusch, 2016

I saw and can recommend the film Paterson, by Jim Jarmusch, which is a loving tribute to the art in everyday city life as found through walking, public transport, sitting and being with the city and its inhabitants (and also through home decor, popular music, and baking), and is highly relevant to flaneurs' interests.

Rotten Tomatoes is currently rating it at critics 95% positive and audience 78% liked:

There's even a [trope I usually hate] but rewritten to play 100% better, because Jarmusch (and his hand-picked team).

I hope you enjoy it even half as much as I did.

I saw it and loved it and I think I know the trope you mean and agree wholeheartedly.

I'm glad you enjoyed the film. To be fair to Jarmusch and his team, they probably managed to rewrite more than one trope for the better, heh, but I especially appreciated the working class "manic pixie dream girl" with a business plan.

What I liked most is that while she has some MPDG qualities, the plot wasn't about him meeting her and her fixing his life. Instead we them having a life together and appreciating one another.

Friendship themes, and I'm including those aspects of married love and similar long-term relationships, are my absolute favourite so any reasonably accurate depiction of a couple in a positive mutual relationship with each other (one day at a time) is extremely pleasing to me, especially when it averts a trope about x "fixing" y (or y "fixing" x).
