I did the June challenge! Actually I've found doing some of the challenges rather a challenge, since my city (town rather) is rather small, and sooner rather than later you'll have to cross a mountain or swim across a fjord. But then this Monday I suddenly noticed that my regular work-home bus had gotten a new terminus. Which I had no idea were was, so the challenge kind of gave itself:

Welcome to Hesjaholtvegen (The hayrack grove road)! Somewhere in Norway...

The first two things I saw on my walk was a) a kindergarten (and we teach our children to become pirates it seems?)

and b) a football pitch

This was rather symptomatic for my walk actually, in all I saw 5 kindergartens and 4 football pitches (all with artificial turf). But mostly I saw ditches with flowers. Suburbia (sub-townia?) is kind of boring.

The valley I walked through used to be farmland, and there are some of the old farmer's houses around like this one on Melkeplassen (The milking spot)

but since Bergen has been growing there are a lot of newer houses as well - like these

Cave canem!

Not a kindergarten, but almost, the local children's theatre, this season showing Pippi Longstocking

Kindergarten no 4 up close

At the highest point of the walk I bought an ice cream and took a picture of the view, trying to catch the cargo ship going out the fjord. The port in Bergen is one of the bigger ports in Scandinavia, and for some stupid reason our cargo (and cruise) port is in the middle of town.

And finally: kindergarten no 5 (to the right, behind the trees), football pitch no 4 (standing on it) and home sweet home (to the left)

And here's a map of my walk.

we teach our children to become pirates

Still viking after all these centuries! ;-)

So many lovely green trees, and a beautiful view across the fjord. I'm curious whether the cliffs behind the new housing are natural or the remains of quarrying or something? It looks like a good walk, and only boring to you because you know Bergen, but interesting to me!
