Today's Adventures
Sep. 5th, 2025 09:34 pmToday we went to the Broomcorn Festival in Arcola, Illinois. This is a big harvest festival, well worth catching, and it runs the whole weekend if you want to check it out. The weather was beautiful, cloudy and mild, couldn't ask for better weather.
Arcola is a nice town with several favorite shops that we like to visit. The old buildings are colorful with beautiful architecture. Most of the streets along the festival are still brick. There are benches along the sidewalks. Several places had picnic tables set up for the event, too.
First we scoped out the food offerings. Most was typical fair food, but there were a few independent offerings. We got lunch at Eddie's Tacos. I got a taco el pastor and my partner Doug got a mixed meat one. At $3.50 each, this was the second-cheapest food after the church booth with $2 hot dogs. Among the other offerings were fruit cups, a little slice of Terramagne, and I was tempted -- had it be a bit warmer I probably would have bought one. We picked up lemonade from a separate food truck.
We walked around the event, exploring one side at a time.
Ruby Rose Unique Findings had a charming selection of Harry Potter items including wands and jewelry.
Rebecca the Red Witch had a variety of Pagan and New Age offerings. I picked up a bottle of Smoke-Free Fumigator spray made with full moon water, rosemary essential oil, cedarwood essential oil, and pink salt. It smells good and has nice energy. We remembered this booth from last year.
That Wyrd Place was another Pagan / New Age booth that had jewelry, stones, and tiny decorated brooms.
Silver Phoenix Gifts had crystals, jewelry, figurines, and more. We picked up a tumbled yooperlite stone. This is another favorite from last year.
We also visited the broom tent. The selection wasn't as good this year, but we managed to find a multicolored cobweb broom.
For dessert, we got an apple dumpling with caramel sauce, topped with vanilla ice cream. That was delicious, and worth watching for at future events. :D
It has been a fun day.

Wow!
