I was slightly sad that the challenges are the same as last year so I planned to do something different, however it turned into IIIa, but started out as IIIb. I think IIIa is broad enough to cover any travel starting at work that you haven't done before even if your motivations are different. I apologise in advance for not knowing dreamwidth as I don't live here any more. I also apologise in advance for the Ingress.
This is also a follow up to last year's challenge. Then my job was new, today it was my last day. I may do this from my new job next week.
The challenge:
III. (a) Travel to or from your workplace one day using a completely different route to any you've ever used before.
which started out as:
III. (b) Travel towards home from your workplace using your usual method, but stay on the first public transport vehicle that you use until either it reaches its terminus or you're about to reach a point where your ticket/pass is no longer valid. Navigate home from here.
Ingress is a data collection exercise from Google which has gamified travel. My favourite aspect is missions, little player-created guided tours of places and things. I have submitted several and completed over 200.

So. It was my last day. I left the hospital at 8am after my normal 12 hour night shift. Whipps Cross was supposed to be flattened and replaced by a shiny and expensive pfi scheme. This didn't happen and much of the estate is old. The old laundry is part functional and part derelict.

Several buses go through the hospital grounds - the W12, W15 and W19. I would normally get the W15 or W19 to Leytonstone station and then get the tube. Today the W19 turned up. It terminates at Ilford. I've never been to Ilford before. I got the bus and went to Ilford.
Looking out of the window the bus went through Blake Hall. Was it the site of the old tube station? It doesn't seem far enough out. The station is a mile from the old country house but it's still not here, surely? Hmm.
Rabbits Road. Why? Mohammed runs the pharmacy round here.

Ingress portals are often rubbish but it can highlight gems. Did you know there was a masonic temple here?

I find an ingress mission in Ilford. It's still several km away. The bus terminates and it's still several km away. Bah. I'm not walking. Where next?
A bus came past going to the Keir Hardie estate. I wonder what he would make of it.
About a month ago I made a mission which involves travelling to every station on the Gospel Oak to Barking Line.
I got the 169 bus to Barking. I've never been to Barking either. The local Wetherspoons has a silly name but did breakfast for £2.99.

My mission isn't available. FFS. It looks like you can only find it at Gospel Oak. I'll get the GOBLIN anyway as I'm here now.

I get to Gospel Oak. Where now? More overground. I get the Stratford train to Highbury and Islington. I change trains and go to Denmark Hill. 42 bus home.

Total time - 4 hours.
