So, for four weeks I am staying in Athens (the one in Greece of course), and even though I havelived here before, I'm now staying in a new area, so I thought I'd do a beer glass walk to get to know my new neighbourhood.

All photos were taken with my mobeil phone, since I managed to forget to pack my camera as well as my bathing suit..., and since I didn't bring a computer I've done it the easy way and just uploaded them uncut and unaltered, since that would be a bit fiddly.

So here is my walk. Starting out with a beer of course!

...and here is the map I made.

As you'll see later I'm still within walking distance of the touristic parts of Athens, but it was really a walk through normal living areas for the most part.

As I set out I found this graffiti saying "καλή τυχή" - "good luck", I took that as an good sign.

For the most part I was wandering around in streets like this (this picture also to show you where I am, just look at the flag).

Coming from Norway as I am, I am a bit amazed, and envious of, all the plants and flowers that are everywhere. So here is a selection:

Flowering tree at random street.

Everybody has a flowerbed, no matter what. Even below street level.

And some people also have a little vegetable garden in the middle of the city.

For some reason I keep being surprised whenever I meet a hill in Athens - even though the most known feature of the city is a hill. But let me tell you that there are a lot of them!

This one just kept on going up though. But the houses got smaller and smaller. Actually I had to take of my sandals on the last part of the slope, it was so steep that I kept slipping out of them!

On top of the hill there was nothing but an abandonned shack and an amazing view; Philipappos to the left, Akropolis in the middle and Lykavittos to the right.

At this point I decided I was about half way, most certainly deserved a beer. Which was half the price and twice the size of the first one. It pays getting out of the more affluent districts. I also like the design on the label of the Fix beer.

While I was drinking beer I could also look at the locals enjoying the early evening on the local square; the men talking, playing cards, chess, tavli or betting on something. Their wives were sitting just behind me showing photos of their grandchildren on their iphones.

There are cats everywhere in Athens...

Some sort of workshop. I thought it was abandonned until an old guy told me to get lost...

I like the old style neoclassical buildings. If I had the money I would buy one. This one seems to be empty.

There is a lot of street art around. I kind of liked this one. In case you forget where to put your car!

This guy is juggling is a crossing close to the Panathenean stadium. I've been told he's been doing it for some time, and I belive it, he had his show perfectly timed to fit with the red lights.

Now I'm getting back towards the more well known parts of Athens; the Panathenean stadium (I wish it was open, so I could go running in there!) And - is the 3 place box lower than the modern ones, or it just me?

The Acropolis to the left and the temple of Zeus to the right.

And that concluded my tour around my new neighbourhood (after this I went for a gyros, which I ate before getting around to take photos of it.).

All in all it was a pretty good way of getting to know my neighbourhood!

And here is my walk tracked. not too badly off target!
